When Linh joined a weekend science class, her family had to change its Saturday routine. Previously, she had washed the dishes after lunch while her younger brother played. Their father suggested a short family meeting instead of simply giving the dishes to their mother. The children listed the jobs they could do safely. Linh chose to prepare vegetables before her class; her brother offered to wash the dishes after lunch. Their parents still handled hot pans and heavy shopping. After two weeks, the family reviewed the arrangement. The kitchen was not always perfect, but everyone knew whom to ask for help. Linh noticed that her brother now understood why lunch took time to prepare. He also complained less about waiting. The family did not pay the children for each small job. They explained that care for a shared home was a shared responsibility. Linh felt relieved: attending her class no longer meant leaving another person with all her work.
