Bài giảng

Meaning and form

Present perfect: have/has + past participle connects past experience with the present. Use ever/never for experience, already/yet for completion, for + duration and since + starting point. Do not normally combine present perfect with a finished past time such as yesterday; use past simple then.

From rule to accurate use

Start with the intended meaning, then identify the subject and verb pattern.

Worked example 1: She {{1}} visited the museum twice. (have/has)

Answer and reasoning: She has visited the museum twice. (have/has) She takes has + past participle.

Worked example 2: We have ___ finished our project.

Answer and reasoning: already Already fits present perfect; finished past times do not.

Apply the rule to a new sentence rather than memorising only the answer.
