Words in meaningful groups

memorable — đáng nhớ. The trip was a memorable experience.
embarrassing — gây ngượng ngùng. Forgetting my lines was embarrassing.
thrilling — hào hứng. The final challenge was thrilling.
confidence — sự tự tin. Practice gave me confidence.
participate — tham gia. I participated in a summer course.
opportunity — cơ hội. The course was an opportunity to learn.
challenge — thử thách. Working in a team was a challenge.
achievement — thành tựu. Finishing the project was an achievement.

Pronunciation workshop

/j/ begins yes and youth; keep the tongue high without blocking the air. /w/ begins we and workshop; round the lips then glide into the vowel. Do not confuse west and yes or add a separate vowel before the glide.

Read the example words slowly, then in a short sentence. Record one attempt only with permission. Compare the target sound or stress with the reference, and repeat the phrase without adding an extra vowel.

Present perfect: have/has + past participle connects past experience with the present. Use ever/never for experience, already/yet for completion, for + duration and since + starting point. Do not normally combine present perfect with a finished past time such as yesterday; use past simple then.

Dễ nhầm

  • Do not translate every word separately; preserve the meaning of whole phrases.
  • A fluent opinion still needs evidence when it makes a factual claim.
