Hà Nội’s urban development can be understood as more than the construction of taller buildings. Changes in housing, transport, employment and public services affect how people use the city. A new road may shorten one journey while creating pressure at another junction. A growing residential area needs schools, safe walking routes and drainage as well as homes. Comparing photographs can reveal physical change, but it cannot by itself show whether residents can afford housing or reach services easily. Historical comparisons must also keep administrative boundaries consistent. A population total for an earlier, smaller area should not be compared directly with a later expanded area as if only births or migration caused the difference. In a school report, state the years, the geographic unit and the source before interpreting a trend. Urbanisation is a social and spatial process, not simply a race to build more.
