Suggest and recommend can take V-ing or a clause with should: I suggest checking the settings. I recommend that you should back up your work. Advise also takes V-ing, a should-clause or object + to-infinitive: I advise you to check. Do not use “suggest you to check”.

Stressing every word can express surprise, anger or strong emphasis: “You. Shared. My. Password?” This is not the neutral pattern for ordinary speech. In neutral speech, highlight key information; in an emphatic repetition, each word can receive a beat. Use respectful tone, especially in advice.

Connect language and meaning

Revisit these four examples: A tablet is an electronic device. A portable charger fits in a bag. The touchscreen responds to a finger. Battery life depends on use.

Explain what each example communicates before checking its form. Keep a personal error log: incorrect form, corrected form, reason. Choose one error you can now repair without help.
