Reported statements

Khi tường thuật với said/told ở quá khứ,thường lùi thì:present simple→past simple,will→would,can→could. Said(that)+mệnh đề;told+người nghe+(that)+mệnh đề. Đổi đại từ và từ chỉ thời gian/nơi theo ngữ cảnh;không đổi máy móc nếu sự thật vẫn đúng và người nói chọn giữ thì. Hiện tại tiếp diễn am/is/are + V-ing thường lùi thành was/were + V-ing. Khi thuật lại ở ngày/nơi khác: now → then, today → that day, tomorrow → the next/following day, here → there; chọn theo mốc thực tế.

Worked language example

Lan said,“I am tired.”→Lan said that she was tired.

Step1:identify the communicative meaning. Step2:choose the structure above. Step3:check the subject,verb form,and any time/place reference. Read the complete sentence,not only the blank.
