Understand the pattern
Quantities: some + plural countable noun or uncountable noun: some eggs, some flour. A lot of/lots of can go with both types: a lot of apples, lots of milk. Use how many with plural countable nouns and how much with uncountable nouns. A container makes an uncountable food countable: two bottles of water. Do not add plural -s to rice, flour or water when speaking of the substance.
