Genre: an opinion essay about limiting teenagers’ screen time
Teenagers’ screen time should be limited thoughtfully rather than by a rule that ignores its purpose. Long periods of entertainment can interrupt sleep and reduce time for exercise or conversation. A clear evening stopping time may therefore help. However, a screen is also used for homework, accessibility tools and contact with relatives. Counting every minute in the same way can create unnecessary conflict. Families should discuss what the device is being used for and agree on phone-free moments, such as meals. Adults should follow the shared rule too. Exceptions for urgent communication or a supervised project can be explained in advance. In my view, the strongest agreement combines boundaries with trust: it protects important routines while allowing teenagers to practise making responsible choices.
