Getting Started

Mục tiêu bài học

  • Understand the topic and the purpose of a short exchange.

Bài giảng

Meet the topic

Vy: Could you tell me what the tour includes?
Guide: It includes a guide and a snack, but not lunch.
Vy: Thanks. Is the route suitable for someone who walks slowly?

Vy compared two tours for a weekend visit. The first package included transport, a guide and meals, but it allowed little free time. The second was a small walking tour led by local residents. It did not include accommodation, so travellers had to book their own rooms. Vy chose the second option because she wanted to learn how the neighbourhood had changed. The guide, who had lived there for many years, asked visitors not to photograph people without permission. During the walk, the group bought snacks from a family business and refilled water bottles. Vy realised that a cheaper headline price does not always mean a cheaper whole trip. She checked every included service before making a decision.

Read actively

Read the exchange once for the setting, then mark the question and response. Notice the useful expressions, not just separate words. In this unit, connect the topic to these phrases: package tour, itinerary, accommodation, brochure.

Relative pronouns connect a noun with identifying information: who for people, which for things, whose for possession. In a defining clause, that can often replace who/which. The pronoun can be omitted only when it is the object, not when it is the subject: the guide (who) we met; the guide who helped us.
