Strategy and reasoning
A productive discussion has a visible beginning, middle and close. Begin by naming the question and inviting a first view. Keep it moving with a genuine Wh-question, a brief sign of understanding or a request for time to think. State a position with evidence and distinguish agreement from merely understanding. When disagreeing, identify the point rather than judge the person. Finish by summarising what is agreed, what remains uncertain and the next step.
Original model: A: Shall we compare the two learning routes? B: Yes. I value supervised practice, but I need to check progression. A: Which qualification would each route award? B: I have one source, but the second is unclear. Could we verify that before choosing? A: I agree. We have compared the daily tasks; our next step is to request current qualification details. B: Thank you. Let’s meet again after the replies.
