Unit 7 Distance with it: “How far is it from your home to school?” – “It is about two kilometres.” Here it is an empty subject, not a particular object. Advice: should/should not + base verb: “You should wear a helmet.” Questions: “Should we stop here?” Use should for sensible advice, not a guaranteed prediction. State safe rules without encouraging learners to test dangerous situations.
Unit 8 Although/though introduce a clause showing contrast: “Although the film was long, I enjoyed it.” Do not add but to the same pair of clauses. However links contrasting sentences: “The film was long. However, I enjoyed it.” A comma alone is not enough to join two full clauses with however. Distinguish an emotion from a cause: a boring film makes a viewer bored; a moving scene makes a viewer moved.
Unit 9 Yes/No questions: move be before the subject (“Is the parade colourful?”); with ordinary present verbs use Do/Does + subject + base verb (“Do people wear costumes?”); in the past use Did + base verb (“Did you join?”). Short answers repeat the auxiliary: Yes, they do; No, she did not. Do not answer “Yes, I am” to “Do you…?”. Give accurate cultural information without treating all communities as identical.
